The Growing Trend of Deleting Instagram Accounts: Why is it Happening?
According to a recent analysis by cyber security website VPNOverview, Instagram is the app that Americans are most interested in deleting, with over 900,000 searches for "delete" or "deactivate" Instagram. In comparison, there were 385,410 searches for Facebook, 217,400 for Snapchat, 92,490 for Twitter, and 24,819 for Telegram. Interestingly, TikTok had only around 14,000 searches.
Despite the high number of searches to delete the app, Instagram is still the most popular app of 2022, with an average of over 11.8 million downloads every month.
However, according to various studies and reports, the platform is not very well-loved by its users. The Wall Street Journal reported that Instagram engagement is declining and only 10% of the most popular creators use Instagram as their main platform.
Additionally, Facebook's own research found that Instagram is harmful to a sizable percentage of teens, especially teenage girls.
Furthermore, studies conducted by the American Psychological Association have linked Instagram to various mental health issues such as depression, body image concerns, self-esteem issues, social anxiety, and more.
Despite the never-ending attempts to find a new social media platform that could offer a more positive experience than Instagram, such efforts have proven to be futile. Some of the platforms that have been suggested as alternatives include BeReal, Glass, Grainery, as well as Tumblr and LinkedIn. This search for alternatives is not without reason, as Instagram is known to have a negative impact on the mental health, making users feel bad.
Given these issues, perhaps it's time for people to follow through on their desire to delete Instagram.
